20/21 Winter GAPs Webinar Series - On-Farm Food Safety Virtual Sessions

Come hear from UMN Extension educators and farmers about how they have implemented Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) on their farms. These trainings will be useful to all size fruit and vegetable farms.

Agenda: UMN Extension Educator for on-farm food safety Annalisa Hultberg will provide an overview and updates related to the topic, and then a farmer trainer will offer a deep – dive into their farm practices with tips and tricks about integrating food safety into their operations.

Cost: Free (thanks to funding from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant Program)

One attendee at each session entered to win a kit with handwashing stand materials for their farm!

November 19: Water on the farm: testing, management, irrigation, wash water sanitation
Farmer trainer: Laura Frerichs, Loon Organics

December 17: Animals and food safety: wild and domestic critters and managing them
Farmer trainer: Noreen Thomas, Doubting Thomas Farms

January 21: Designing washing lines and packsheds for efficiency and sanitation
Farmer trainer: Joan Olson, Prairie Drifter Farm

February 18: Manure and soil amendments:
Farmer trainer: Jane Jewett, Willow Sedge Farm

March 18: GAP audits, FSMA inspections, recordkeeping and food safety plans
Farmer trainer: Rodrigo Cala, Cala Farm

Although we will discuss the FSMA Produce Safety Rule and help you understand how it applies to you, please note that this is not a Produce Safety Rule Grower Training and sessions are not focused on the FSMA Produce Safety Rule.
