Polymer Composite Heat Exchangers for Thermal Energy Storage

Abstract: Additive manufacturing of polymer heat exchangers has gainedrecent attention for the potential to produce lightweight, non-corrosive heatexchangers with novel geometries. Sincethe main downside to using polymers as a heat transfer material is the lowthermal conductivity, recent research has focused on increasing the thermalconductivity through additives. However, phase-change materials (PCMs) can alsobe added to polymers to give them the ability to store latent heat at specifiedtemperatures. This talk will provide an overview of polymer heat exchangers,shape-stabilized PCMs, and explore the potential to 3D print polymer and PCM compositeheat exchangers for thermal energy storage applications.
