John Ruiz, PhD
Associate Professor @University of Arizona
Dr. John M. Ruiz, Associate Professor in the Dpt of Psychology at the Univ of Arizona, has a demonstrated record of expertise and leadership in the domain of health disparities and the pursuit of equity and inclusive excellence. Ruiz’s program of research focuses on psychosocial influences on health with an emphasis on racial/ethnic health disparities, particularly the epidemiological phenomenon referred to as the Hispanic Health Paradox. His work reflects a broad range of methodologies. His research efforts are complemented by over two decades of continuous service to APA and to the field of health psychology/ behavioral medicine including leadership in national/international organizations, NIH roles, and serving on the editorial boards of several journals including Senior Associate Editor of Annals of Behavioral Medicine. Ruiz is a past chair of APA’s CSES, has guest-edited several special issues on racial/ethnic health disparities.
